Education is something children nowadays have to go through. Have we ever wonder what if we do not go through education? Or maybe how important we are to our future society, or how are we able to help improve our society?

After going through twelve years of education, pre nursery, nursery, primary one to six, secondary 1 to 3, I realize the importance of education. In pre nursery and nursery, we learn simple words and mathematics sums. This is the very basic of what we are learning now. From then on, we had just started building our foundation in education. Foundation is like a start-up, we have to establish a good foundation in order to go higher and higher.

From primary one to six, we had reached the intermediate stage. In primary school, there is a system call streaming. We will be stream into EM1, EM2 or EM3. This determines where we will be going to for the next stage of our education. For the EM1 students, the will take higher mother tongue, and will have higher chances of getting in to better schools. Another extreme, the EM3 will then have very low chances of getting in to good schools, even for neighborhood schools, they can only get into the normal technical stream. All these system set up by the government are what I think as unnecessary stuff. But on the other hand, it is quite useful.

I felt it is unnecessary because this kind of system will cause the less intelligent or capable student who could not produce good achievements in studies will not be useful to the society, therefore they will have an inferior mindset thinking that they are useless. These people will not plan for their future therefore they will never succeed.

This applies to the system in secondary school. This is why I do not support the statement that majority of the people say. The advanced stage of our education will be the one that determines our future occupation. One thing I agree with the government is that the ITE students are able to get their diploma certificate after their two years spent in ITE. This helps them have better opportunities for their choices of jobs.

To me, The most useful aspects of education will be our character development or what many school call civic and moral education. Teachers had been teaching us about our character and how we should bahave. For instance, If an intelligent guy is able to work for a particular company but he has very bad character such as easily anger and offended, high egoism, no one will want to employ him. Character comes before a person’s brain. When we reach our adult life, working will naturally be our priority, so how can we use our personality in exchange of our intelligence.
